How do I style my new feathered haircut?

I've just had my hair cut, and I love it, but it's a bit of a challenge to style. It's sort of a shag cut - down to my collar bone at its longest point, heavily layered, with a jagged fringe/bangs - I guess it's semi-emo. Aaaanyway... I watched the stylist blow-drying it, and she sort of blew it forward so it layered around my face (styled straight, my hair is naturally wavy). I've bought a large round brush similar to what she was using, I have a blowdryer with the flattening attachment thingy, and straighteners... but of course I still have a bit of difficulty getting it looking as good. I've never really used a round brush before, and can't seem to get the knack of picking the hair up with it to blowdry it straight.

Anyone got any tips for someone who's had their hair long for years?? I want to play up the choppiness/shagginess of the cut, it's a great, very funky cut and I want to make the most of it!

hi do you have any products to help it do what you want? i use bed head products they are sooooo good and smell yummy.

Use your round brush and get in at the roots, dont leave your roots damp cos if its still wet the style wont hold.

Use the straightners on your hair last to get the finished look then put some hair spray on it.

The round brush is a tricky one at 1st but you will get the hang of it, do you have any clips that could hold your hair up? hope it helps

My haircut is heavily layered as well, what I usually do (and this is by no means a professional advice :P) is wash my hair, then blow dry it upside down (this gives your hair volume) and then straighten it. After which I mess it up a bit with some hairgel.

Try rolling your hair on the round/roller brush the blow dry it at hot temperature then blow dry it without the heat, just air. There's normally a button on the blow dryer to turn the heat off.. Then when the hair is a bit cool release the hair from the roller brush.. Practice until you get how to design the hair in the way you want it to look..

My daughter just got that same cut... she is beside herself that she can't get it to style.. I was thinking what if you just put your glue at the root of the hair and pull up emo style until your whole crown is feathered. Too much sticky product at the tips of the hair make it want to fall down.. and of course hair spray is a must for that finished look.

We have not bought the glue yet. I was just reading about it.

got the round brush and the style falls out as the dryer gently blows.....
