Going under a dryer?

My scalp gets super sensitive to the heat from a blow dryer and I usually don't dry my hair. As its got longer though it just kind of dries pretty lifeless. I am going for a trim/re-style this weekend and when they said about a cut and blow dry, I said I didn't want it blow dried. They said that they could put me under a dryer instead because the heat is more gentle.

Firstly is this true?

Second, they said it would be better to dry the hair in the salon than let me go without it dried because it can look different when it is dry and the stylist may want to cut the hair a bit more after this.

Thirdly, if my hair is around shoulder length, can they just put me under the dryer or do they have to do stuff with my hair? A friend told me that you can't just let your hair hang loose because the heat won't get to it.

I am a bit nervous because I am a guy and don't normally see other guys go under a dryer, but at the same time my scalp just burns with the heat of a blow dryer.

They have hairdryers with cool settings. Blow dryers too.

Like blow dryers, hairdryers have heat settings. And yes they are more gentle then blowdryers. They can set you under there for awhile to get your hair somewhat dry. That way the stylist can look at your hair and decide if more needs to come in certain places. Every stylist is different and we all do things are own way. And dont be nervous. Its just a hairdryer!! And if at anytime it is bothering you then just lift it off your head.

Dryer is okay, you can blowdry your hair with a warm temperature not necessarily with the hot one. Your hairdresser should know better.

I always do finish work after I have dried a haircut because hair does hang differently when it's dry. However, if your scalp is sensitive to heat it won't matter f it comes from a cap dryer or a hand held blow dryer. Cap dryers aren't necessarily more gentle they just have more heat settings. Blow dryers have heat settings too and your stylist can dry your hair with a lower heat or cool setting and still be able to dry your hair. Don't feel embarrassed about going under the cap dryer though. Many, many men get their hair colored or highlighted and go under the dryer all the time. Just because you haven't seen it doesn't mean it's unusual. And yes, a cap dryer will get your hair dry even if it's hanging loose but here's another suggestion. Sit under the cap hairdryer for a few minutes to get the top dry, then your stylist can finish the ends with a blow dryer with no need to put any more heat on your scalp.

One other thing, thermal protectants are designed to protect your hair from heat but when they are worked through your hair and massaged into the scalp shield your scalp as well. When using these types of products your skin may not be as sensitive and they generally don't make your hair stiff or sticky. You usually can't tell they've been used once your hair is dry. Good luck.
